«Since 1880…»

La Villa du Croissant was built in 1889 by the Turkish architect Serkis Bey. He was a good friend of the engineer Charles Cotard who initiated the creation of the Val André as a seaside town.

In 1854, these 2 men met in Paris while studying.

Serkis Bey was studying architecture in “Collège Sainte Barbe”, then at “Ecole Centrale” and finally at “Académie des Beaux Arts”. Eventually, he came back to Istanbul to work as an architect in his family business.

Charles Cotard was a famous engineer, he worked on the Canal de Suez construction (1864) and the development of the railway from Constantinople to the Black Sea (1872- 1873)

In 1880, Charles Cotard decided to invest in Val André as he saw the potential of this area to become a popular seaside town. He bought a large piece of land which was at the time only a wild big sandy dune. Later, his good friend Serkis Bey, also decided to invest and bought a few pieces of land. He will also be requested to work on architectural projects such as the Casino (which sadly has been destroyed) and a large mansion: La Villa du Croissant.

The 2 friends both spent their final years in Constantinople. Serkis Bey died in 1899 and Charles Cotard in 1902.

Serkis Bey a construit :

  • 6 palais
  • 15 demeures et pavillons
  • 2 pavillons de chasse
  • 3 mosquées
  • 4 casernes
  • 2 ministères
  • 2 écoles
  • 1 fontaine monumentale
  • 1 usine avec son entrepôt
  • Des maisons privées
  • 1 tour-horloge
  • Le 1er casino du Val-André
  • La Villa du Croissant au Val-André

«… to today»

We fell in love with this historical villa in Val André and bought this property in 2018. The villa, which did not get any maintenance work since its construction, was in pitiful condition and needed complete renovation. We immediately started the renovation with the help of a local architect and workers. We made sure to keep the harmony of the original elements like the roof, staircases, wooden floorboard, decorative ironworks, the front gate and others.

18 months later, the renovation work finally came to an end. We decided to open our villa to vacationers or Val André lovers for them to spend delightful days in an historical villa with all the modern comfort to enjoy this unique spot.
